He was born on 12th November 1875, the first son of Mr. and Mrs. George Brakspear, of Glenwood, Silverdale Rd., Eastbourne, Sussex, and of Copse Hill, Henley-on-Thames. Whilst at Charterhouse he belonged to the Rifle Corps, rising to the position of Lance-Corporal. He went into the family business and became a director of W.H. Brakspear & sons, Brewers. In 1904 he married Marjorie, the daughter of Colonel Wilmer White.He served in the South African War 1900 - 1902, in the 3rd Oxfordshire Light Infantry, then in the Great War with the Royal Berkshire Regiment. He died on 2nd October 1915 of wounds received at the Battle of Loos.
