Edward William Wise Rebbeck was born on 16th December 1897, the first son of Edward Wise and Lilian (rem. Cardew) Rebbeck. His younger brother, Lionel George, died of Meningitis shortly after joining Charterhouse in 1913.

He was killed when his aircraft crashed during his training at the East Boldre Flying School, which saw the deaths of at least 47 airmen. On the event of his death, the Court of Enquiry found that he 'Left Bournemouth in a somewhat exhausted condition. Turned downwind at too low an altitude trying to turn steeply into wind. Side slipped. Nosedived into ground. All controls in order'.
