WWI Roll of Honour

Back

This Roll of Honour includes biographies of all those Old Carthusians (former pupils of Charterhouse School) who are known or believed to have died through military service with any of the combatant nations in the Great War 1914 - 1919 (including the North Russian campaign against the Bolsheviks, 1918 - 1919) or through war related humanitarian service, or as civilians through enemy action.

Those who died after the War’s end, through the delayed effects of wounds or sickness, are not forgotten. Also included are two former masters, not themselves O.C.’s, and two former ‘school servants’, all of whom died on active service in the British Army. In a spirit of reconciliation, and recognising that one may yet serve honourably in an ill cause, the compilers believe that an OC who served with the German army is equally worthy of respectful remembrance and his name and details are included.
